A back-end load, also known as a deferred sales charge or DSC, is a fee charged by a mutual fund company when an investor sells shares of a fund. It's a type of sales charge that's deducted from the proceeds of the sale, typically decreasing over time as the investor holds the fund longer. Back-end loads are often used to incentivize long-term investment and discourage short-term trading.
